About
This blog is an almost daily account of urban observations made while walking around in Victoria, BC. It is written for people who want to slow down. The world is different for someone who walks everywhere. Time is slowed down. The pedestrian sees it all: the random, the beautiful, the curious, the weird, the poignant, the sad and the scary. As director of an art school and I am interested in the connection between the everyday and contemporary art practice. I walk everywhere. If it takes me less than an hour to get somewhere, walking is my preferred mode of transit. Cycling is second because it gets you places quick. Public transit third (because you can look out the window). Trains are fourth. And the fifth would be a Datsun Roadster convertible. This blog is about my daily observations as a pedestrian and as somebody whose life is immersed in the teaching and practice of art. The main subject matter is random cultural observations and contemporary art The title of the blog comes from a song by Alvin and the Chipmunks.
If you also take notice all the strange and wonderful things found as you walk through an urban environment, take a photo and send it to me at director@vancouverislandschoolart.com.I’ll look at all photos sent to me, and post some of them on this blog from time to time.
Please add me to your new posts via email.
Thanks for your interest!
Hi Wendy,
I just wanted to pass on that I really enjoy this blog. It is interesting with a sense of wonder and humor. Until recently I always would run between tasks and although I am just learning how to slow down a little, this post is helpful in highlighting how much there is to see when you take a little time to observe. Fabulous
I also noted this quote from Theodore Roosevelt a short while ago and when I read it I thought of you and your comments related to “saying yes to new projects (like the Crystal Pool) then figuring out how to do it later”…
“When you are asked if you can do a job, tell ‘em, ‘Certainly I can!’ Then get busy and find out how to do it.”
Theodore Roosevelt.
You’re in good company with respect to your thoughts on getting things done.
Take care,
Robin
this is a great idea…I’ll be on the lookout for oddities!!!
